Make Bath Time A Walk In The Dog Park

Giving your dog a bath can be a hassle or even an ordeal like with Alle (it's her kryptonite).  But there are ways you can make it smoother and more enjoyable for your dog.

Try some of these tips and advice to make bath time a walk in the dog park:
  • Make sure you wash your dog in a suitable area.  Try to be in a confined room because they might get upset and try to escape.
  • You shouldn't wash your dog more then once a month unless they have a skin infection because it can cause skin irritation.

  • Depending on your dog's size, coat and breed usually determines how often you should wash them but other factors are involved.  Dogs outside more usually need more baths then a dog that is indoor more often.
  • Brush your dog before giving them a bath to remove any tangles especially if they have a thick, long coat.
  • Gather everything you need before you grab your dog like towels, dog shampoo, a brush and if you don't have a detachable showerhead, a bucket.

  • Make sure you use a good quality shampoo made for dogs.  Do not use human shampoos they have different PH balances which can cause parasites, viruses, and foster bacteria.  I am currently using Petology Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo.
  • Make sure your water isn't to hot but warm and not so forceful if using a showerhead
  • Put a towel down in your tub or sink to help the traction

  • Gather a helper you may need help.
  • Talk to your dog with a calm soothing voice while bathing them.
  • Reward your dog with a treat or toy to associate bath time with something pleasant.
  • Make sure to dry off your dog when done, even a dog with a thick coat can get chilled.
